Beyond Self-Care: Stress Management for Extreme Professions

This half day course provides participants with the very specific tools and knowledge they need to navigate being in an extreme field such as psychotherapy and counseling.  Most stress management courses are intended for more pedestrian occupations and are not effective for therapists as the curriculum is geared more for production based jobs.  Furthermore feedback about mainstream stress management trainings usually indicates they are ineffective.  This class breaks stress and its mechanisms down to a science which is then concrete and malleable and then can be reduced and even extinguished.  Specific focus is placed on chemical processes within the body as well as practitioner risk for burnout, decay and boundary violations.  Additional focus will also be placed on the impact of the COVID pandemic and its particulars.

2) Participants will understand the concept of professional decay
3) Participants will the tie between productivity and stress

Presenter:  Dave Glick, Ed.M., LCSW. Dave is a highly committed and reliable professional, offering comprehensive experience in behavior analysis, psychotherapy, educational, and organizational consulting and public speaking within academia, businesses, law enforcement, and both for and non-profit organizations. Mental health expert, competent at assessing and handling caseload of difficult social service cases; providing appropriate and evidence-based interventions to various cases; while supporting diverse organizations in overcoming longstanding barriers. Effective trainer and educational specialist, successful at utilizing out-of-the-box approaches in training various individuals and introducing educational programs with emphasis on mental health, psychology, and critical incident response. Compassionate clinical social worker, adept at establishing positive rapport with patients, family members, law enforcement officials, and other community health and social services agencies. DEA and FBI clinician, currently hold a US Government Secret Security Clearance. Subject matter expert for Office of National Drug Control Policy(HIDTA).
